DENMARK 7 October – 10 October 2011 (Arhus, Hadsten)

Hej!
We drove to Arhus and set up camp at Camping Arhus. We soon realised that Denmark would probably be our most expensive European country! We went into town in the bus, and the rain the next day and caught up with Rhe’s school friend Julie who did exchange in Gladstone! Julie showed us around Arhus, took us around the parks, the old town and we relaxed with coffee and lunch in the busy city centre, trying to catch the sun J We went back to Julie’s beautiful apartment and she made us traditional herring on rye bread with curry salad, which of course was delicious! She also introduced us to these wonderful doughy balls that you have with jam and icing sugar (perhaps not such a good idea for our hips haha).
It was so nice to catch up with Julie and hear about Danish culture and how they live. The next day Julie took us to Hadsten where her parents live. She took us on a tour of the town, the old estate and we watched a live hand ball game. (For the Aussies, it is not the hand ball you are thinking of..) We had a traditional Danish dinner of pork meatballs, boiled potato, carrot salad and white sauce with parsley. All compliments of Julie’s very talented mum! Her family invited us to stay the night and we were very touched. We were grateful when the hot water didn’t switch off after 3 minutes as we have grown accustomed to lol J We sat up drinking tea and having sweets, talking and catching up. Julie and her family were so generous and we were so happy to have met them! We also celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary here which was lovely too!
